The Shepherdess was opened in 1979 and began as a weaving and spinning store (thus the name). The Shepherdess rapidly evolved to its present form, carrying beads, various craft materials and one of a kind jewelry. From the beginning, workshops have been offered at the store. Over the years the workshops have grown to cover a wide variety of bead working techniques, wire wrapping and metal smithing.

Now in its 30th year, The Shepherdess continues to be on the cutting edge of the bead world, striving to offer its clientele elegant and one of a kind beads and findings in a friendly and inspiring setting. Recently, The Shepherdess returned to its fiber roots by offering its customers artisan yarns and fibers to enhance beadwork and to encourage knitters and spinners in expanding their creativity.

The school offers top quality workshops led by local artists and guest instructors from around the country.
